NCEA SCHOLARSHIP MUSIC
Sung-Min Jun gained NCEA scholarship in Music in Violin performance in 2014, as well as in 2013. Scholarship in performance involves a 15 minute solo concert, a 3000 word prepared reflection and a 3 hour exam analysing 3 pieces of music that they have never seen before. Sung-Min also gained scholarship in biology and chemistry and was the Dux and Head-boy in 2014.
Catherine Webb gained NCEA scholarship in Music in Flute performance in 2014, submitting a 15 minute solo concert and a 3000 word reflection in her portfolio and sitting an examination analysing three pieces of music previously unstudied. Catherine was also academic leader in 2014. Catherine also won the Piano Traders' "Composer of the Year" award in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Joseph Gasparich gained NCEA scholarship in Music in Drum Performance in 2014, submitting a 15 minute solo concert and a 3000 word reflection in his portfolio and sitting an examination analysing three pieces of music previously unstudied. Joe was also Academic Prefect in 2014. Levi Wenzlick gained NCEA Scholarship Music in 2014, in Drum Performance. For scholarship in performance, students submit an unedited DVD of their solo performance, write a 3000 critical reflection on preparing their pieces and sit a 3-hour examination analysing unprepared scores. Levi also won the Colleen Cameron Award for outstanding contribution to Music at Massey High School. Joshua Tagaloa gained Outstanding Scholarship in Music in 2012, specialising in Composition. For this he submitted a portfolio of original compositions, including a motet "Dominus Qui Ductor"; as well as a 3000 word critical reflection on his work and a a 3-hour examination analysing unprepared scores. With his motet, Joshua also gained 3rd place in the SOUNZ/NZCF Choral Composition competition for secondary school composers. His motet is recorded by Amitai Pati (of Sol3Mio fame, who was also 1st in the Lexus Competition), James Ioelu (1st in the NZ Aria and 2nd in the Sydney Aria), Marlena Devoe (2nd in NZ Aria and 1st in the Sydney Aria). Joshua gained an amazing 23/24 in the scholarship examination. Joshua was Arts Prefect in 2012. |
